NH Forest Society Uses EqualLogic for 14 Terabyte GIS System
CONCORD, N.H., Dec. 11, 2006— An EqualLogic donation to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests (Forest Society) will help the organization advance its land conservation efforts. EqualLogic, a leading provider of networked data storage solutions for businesses of all sizes, donated two EqualLogic PS Series iSCSI storage arrays to the Forest Society. The donation has a monetary value of more than $110,000, but more importantly provides invaluable storage and protection for the Forest Society’s entire digital catalogue of files, land records, and maps. Paradigm Computer Consulting, Inc., of Bedford, N.H., which provides IT support for the Forest Society, integrated the EqualLogic units with 14 terabytes of raw storage into the organization’s computer system.
Preserving undeveloped land today requires a significant amount of technology, from Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping to digital documentation of the property, all requiring vast amounts of storage. The EqualLogic storage units will provide the storage capacity the organization requires to save and archive important documentation on land projects, such as raw data, GIS maps, imagery and graphics, and easement and property sale closing documentation. It will also allow the Forest Society to scan and store digitally thousands of original paper documents of land projects going back decades. “This digital archiving is an advancement in technology the Forest Society would not have been able to implement without this generous donation,” adds Sundquist.
